A dilemma that many salespeople know all too well.
One participant told me quite openly in one of my trainings:
“Franky, sometimes I don’t know what’s right anymore. I want to give honest advice, but at the end of the month, it’s the conclusion that counts. And without a degree, there is no income.”
An honest sentence. And a real area of tension.
Especially in sales, people often get into an inner conflict between ethical customer orientation and economic pressure to succeed. On the one hand, there is the ideal image: understanding the customer, focusing on their needs, finding the best solution together. On the other hand, however, there is everyday life: sales targets, commission systems, pressure to perform. And not infrequently the fear of failure.
So what to do when attitude and reality drift apart?
Unfortunately, there is no simple answer. But there is a path that has proven itself in the long term and that we at FinOptima have been living and teaching for years.
Sustainable selling comes from trust. And trust is not created through manipulation or short-term closing tricks, but through clarity, transparency and consistency in the sales process.
Yes, it may be tempting at the moment to talk the customer into something. But the price for this is high: returns, complaints, loss of reputation. And even worse: one’s own inner peace begins to falter.
The best salespeople I have had the pleasure of experiencing in over 30 years, whether in car dealerships, banks or luxury retail, had one thing in common: they did not sell out of pressure, but out of conviction. They listened, asked questions, sometimes contradicted in a friendly manner and thus created real relevance for the customer. For her, the degree was the result, not the goal at any price.
And yes, you can. Even under pressure, even with ambitious goals. But it takes something that many have forgotten: inner clarity.
If you have clarified for yourself what he or she stands for in sales, you won’t break a sweat with every objection, but will argue with calm conviction and real presence, because the customer feels: Someone is honest with me.
At FinOptima, we accompany salespeople, executives and entire teams on exactly this path. Not with theories, but with practical tools, honest self-reflection, targeted training and individually effective development.
Because we are convinced that integrity sells. Not immediately, but sustainably. And with a feeling that is priceless: to be proud of one’s own achievement.
“Unleash potential – celebrate success.”
